Frequently Asked Questions
Everything anglers ask us before booking — compiled from the Andaman & Nicobar Fisheries Department guidance, A&N Tourism material and our own seasons on the water. Regulations can change; the Directorate of Fisheries is always the final authority.
The Most Important Questions
What is the best time for game fishing in Andaman?
October to May is the main practical season. Sport fishing is officially permitted year-round subject to permitted routes, weather and sea conditions, but conditions and species activity vary through the season — there is no single month that guarantees the best fishing. October–November and January–April are often the most productive windows, with GT and dogtooth fishing prominent.
Is a fish guaranteed?
No. Game fishing is wild fishing and no responsible operator can guarantee a catch. Results depend on weather, sea conditions, tides, currents, bait activity, location, technique and fish behaviour. The charter fee pays for the boat, crew, equipment and experience — not a number or size of fish.
Do I need previous fishing experience?
No. Beginners are welcome on suitable trips; our crew explains the basics, prepares tackle and assists with casting, fighting and landing fish. Offshore fishing does involve boat movement, sun and long hours on the water.
What fish can I catch in Andaman?
Depending on location, season, technique and conditions: Giant Trevally, Dogtooth Tuna, Yellowfin Tuna, Coral Trout, Grouper, Red Bass, Barracuda, Wahoo, Spanish/King Mackerel, Mahi-Mahi, Sailfish, Black Marlin and other tuna and jack species. See our Fish Species guide for ratings and local names.
Is fishing equipment provided?
Yes — quality popping, jigging and trolling tackle is supplied on all Bite Me Charter trips. Specialist anglers are welcome to bring their own rods, reels and lures; discuss specialist gear with the captain before the trip.
Do I need a fishing permit?
Yes. Sport fishing operates under the Andaman & Nicobar Administration's e-permit system administered by the Directorate of Fisheries. As the registered operator, Bite Me Charter applies for the e-permit for your voyage — you just supply documents.
What happens if the weather is bad?
The captain may delay, modify, shorten or cancel a trip when conditions are unsafe — safety always comes before completing a schedule. Official e-permit terms make sailing subject to favourable weather. Weather cancellations are handled separately from guest cancellations; see our Terms.
Is game fishing catch-and-release?
We strongly practise catch and release, particularly for sportfish and breeding-size fish. The Fisheries Department requires protected species under the Wildlife Protection Act to be released immediately, handled carefully and unharmed.
Can I keep my catch?
Only where regulations and our policy permit. Current official tourism guidance allows two fish per trip with a combined weight not exceeding 10 kg; protected species must be released. Your captain advises what may legally be retained.
What should I bring?
High-SPF sunscreen, polarised sunglasses, hat, lightweight quick-dry and long-sleeve sun clothing, non-slip boat shoes, waterproof jacket, personal medication, motion-sickness medication if needed, camera/GoPro, waterproof phone pouch, small dry bag, Government ID and a reusable water bottle.
