India's only active volcano rises from deep water that holds the biggest dogtooth in the islands.
Barren Island is a four-hour run from Port Blair, and every minute is worth it.
Sheer volcanic walls plunge to several hundred metres within a cast of the shore. Dogtooth tuna hold on the ledges, GT patrol the points and yellowfin push bait up against the island on the current.
We visit only on settled multi-day expeditions between November and April.
